About Dermal Fillers

WHAT IT IS

Dermal fillers are non-surgical injectable gels made from hyaluronic acid - the featured ingredient in many moisturizers, and a naturally occurring compound found in skin. Dermal fillers work to restore and plump up soft tissue volume, smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and / or give lips and cheeks a naturally fuller look.

HOW IT WORKS

During your complimentary consultation, our nurse injector will evaluate your skin condition, facial structure, and your concerns to select the best product for your needs. Filler will then be then injected into your desired treatment area and will add structure and volume to bring sunken skin back to the surface. Results are natural-looking and treatment is safe with little downtime.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Depending on your selected treatment area, the procedure can take anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour. Mild swelling, bruising and soreness may occur. You will see your results immediately, and can expect them to last 6-24 months (depending on filler and area).

    • Avoid alcohol 24 hours before your treatment to reduce the chances of bruising.

    • Schedule your injections appt at least 1 month prior to a special event, such as a wedding or vacation. To allow yourself time for a follow-up 3 weeks prior. Bruising may be apparent in that period of time.

    • You are not a candidate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

    • To help avoid bruising, you can start taking Arnica tablets one week prior to your procedure. Please do so unless you are allergic or it is contraindicated with any medications/medical conditions you have – this may include high blood pressure. Arnica can be purchased at your local pharmacy or on Amazon. Please make sure to follow the directions on the label.

    • To reduce your chances of bruising and swelling, please avoid blood-thinning medications, foods, and supplements (unless they are prescribed to treat a health condition) for a week before your appointment. Medications & supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, gingeng, St. Johns Worth, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDS have a blood thinning effect.

    • If you may need a pain reliever within the next two weeks, please use Tylenol as it does not thin blood. Of course, please avoid Tylenol if it is contraindicated with any of your medical conditions or medications.

    • Please do not consume alcohol for at least three days before your visit.

    • Make sure you don’t come in on an empty stomach! Especially if you easily get lightheaded or faint.

    • Hydrate adequately for a week prior to treatment, especially if you are being treated with dermal fillers. Fillers draw water to the surface and dehydration can minimize results!

    • For any injectable appointments, please do not plan any special events for at least one month after the treatment. There may be swelling and bruising for 1-2 weeks following your appointment, and it may take up to a month for tissue to ultimately settle.

    • If you are currently taking antibiotics or have in the last 2 weeks, please call to reschedule as we will be unable to perform this treatment.

    • Please ensure that you do not have any dental appointments two weeks before or after treatment.

    • If you have any autoimmune disorders or contraindications, please clear your procedure with your primary physician prior to your appointment.

    • The treated area may be swollen, sore, bruised and/or lumpy/bumpy. Apply ice lightly to the areas injected, for 15 min each hour. Numbness from the lidocaine may persist for 1 to 2 hours. Avoid all medications/supplements/foods/alcohol (unless medically necessary) that were listed in the pre-care instructions until swelling and bruising have healed. If you experience a need for pain relief, please use Tylenol (unless it is contraindicated to a condition you have or medication you are taking). If you are experiencing bruising or swelling, please apply Arnica gel (this is an over-the-counter supplement that can be purchased at your local pharmacy) until bruising/swelling subsides, unless it is contraindicated with any of your medications/medical conditions.

      • Please allow at least 4 weeks for lips for the filler to fully settle prior to evaluating results.

      • Please reach out if you are in need of a follow-up/touchup following your filler injections.

      • Touchups are appropriate for lumps/bumps, asymmetry, or other side effects.

      • A desire for more volume in the treated area is NOT considered a touchup. You will need additional treatments to reach your aesthetic goals.

      DO NOT:

      • Do NOT exercise for 24 hours after injections (heavy lifting, cardio, yoga, etc) .

      • Do NOT apply make-up for 24 hours after the procedure.

      • No facials, massages, exfoliating, and/or applying Clarisonic devices to the injected area(s) for 2 weeks.

      • Avoid tanning or prolonged exposure to sunlight until swelling/bruising has subsided.

      • Do NOT sleep on your face for the first 24 hours. Sleep on your back with your head elevated.

      • After lip filler – avoid pursing the lips for the first 24 hours, which includes using straws or water bottles, kissing/intimate oral actions, and/or smoking/vaping.

      • After lip filler – avoid massaging or manipulating the product.

      • After lip filler – the maximum amount we recommend per treatment session is 1 ml of filler for lips. This helps prevent lip distortion or losing the natural shape of the lips. Most clients require additional treatments to reach their goals. Once goals are reached, they are typically maintained every 6-12 months.

      • After lip filler – please avoid dental appointments and teeth whitening for at least 2 weeks post-procedure.

      • After lip filler – avoid dirty masks for the first 24 hours, use a new & clean mask, please!

      • For under-eye, cheek, or jawline filler – avoid wearing any tight-fitting masks for 2 weeks.

      • If you desire additional filler for the area treated, please allow 4 weeks between appointment times to allow for full tissue recovery. Your provider will guide you on the appropriate treatments for your anatomy.

  • If you have had fillers previously (mostly applicable to lips): If we do not feel we can achieve results that meet our standards by injecting over your previous filler, we will require one or more dissolving sessions before the new filler is applied. There is a fee of $250+ for dissolving.

If requiring more than one session, they must be spaced out over multiple appointments to be effective. New filler cannot be injected the same day as the previous filler is dissolved (in the same area). Must wait at least 2 weeks before injecting filler into the dissolved area.

NOTE: NO FILLERS WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF A COVID-19 VACCINE.

If you work in a healthcare setting that requires an N-95 or similar, tight-fitting mask, please know that wearing such masks is not recommended for 2 weeks after receiving under-eye, cheek, or jawline filler. If this will not work for you, please consider rescheduling.

EMERGENCY: please contact us immediately if you notice the following:

    • Severe pain and/or color change (pale/dusky/blotchiness) of skin anywhere on the face. Even if it's away from the area injected.

    • Increase in pain, discomfort, color change hours after injections. This should get better not worse.

    • Herpes or blister-like outbreak 24-72 hours after injections.

    • Severe swelling (3 times increase in size) 12 hours post-treatment.
